Sourcing & Respect
The practices behind our kits, working with plants and smoke and a clear intention, are old. A lot of them come from Indigenous traditions people have carried for generations. We hold that with respect, and we want to be clear about where we stand.
Traditional smudging is a sacred ceremony belonging to specific Indigenous cultures. Out of respect, we call our own practice smoke clearing. That honors the tradition without claiming it as ours.
White sage is sacred, and it’s being over-harvested by the commercial market. That’s why we buy ours from the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. It’s ethically grown and hand-tied, and the proceeds go toward Native food sovereignty and a Native student scholarship. When you clear your space with one of our kits, you’re putting money back into the community these traditions come from. Some of our kits also use Yerba Santa, Palo Santo, and Blue Sage, each with its own history.
Come to these tools with some reverence. Learn a little about where they come from. Be intentional about it. That part matters as much as the ritual itself.
